Two friends and I booked a three-day trip in the Alpine Mountains in Austria. Our weekend trip to the Alps began with a four-hour train ride from Munich to Imst. Followed by an hour bus ride on a very curvy road through the countryside of Austria to Piösmes.

We woke up early and walked across Esslingen to the train station and took a train to the city of Stuttgart. From there, we wandered around the train station for a while, we were very lost and had to ask for help. We waited about forty minutes for our train. Once it arrived, we found seats and got comfortable for the four-hour ride that lied ahead.

Compared to America, I felt safe on the train. It was clean and comfortable; it even had a little bar restaurant to buy food and beer. We passed the time by playing card games, sleeping, and admiring the view as we descended into the vast mountain region of Austria.

Once our train arrived in Imst, we indulge in bratwursts and apfelschorle (apple spritzer select to Austria) for lunch at the closest (and only) local restaurant around. We knew we were far from the city because the workers at the restaurant did not speak any English. In fact, she laughed when we told her we were American.

Our bus stop in Imst was located next to a field of horses. They came up to us at the fence! To our right... the Alpine Mountains, to our left... the local restaurant... and all around us were open green landscapes.

Our final transportation was a bus ride from Imst to Piösmes. It was about an hour of nauseating twists and turns. The bus driver took no mercy going around the curves. While on this bus ride, I learned that buses in Europe have a button passengers press to indicate to the bus driver that their stop is coming up.

Once we started following a crystal blue river that drifted through the farmland, we knew we were getting close. Nothing but green hills, blue water, white mountain tops, and farm animals roaming freely… we had arrived at our hostel!
